12 Certified Blasters Placed in Under Two Weeks

North West open-pit mining operation1 August 2025

A North West mine needed a full certified blasting crew before a production deadline. IE Services sourced, screened and placed all twelve positions within eleven working days.

The challenge

A production expansion at an open-pit mine in the North West required a new shaft crew certified to operate under the Mine Health & Safety Act. The client's own HR team had already spent three weeks advertising without success - the required blasting certificates are rare, and most active certificate-holders were on rolling contracts elsewhere. The mine faced a significant penalty clause if the shaft was not operational by the agreed date.

Our approach

IE Services activated its specialist mining talent network, cross-referencing our database of certificate-holders with current availability. We pre-qualified fourteen candidates within eight working days, verifying valid blasting certificates, current medicals and character references. A structured panel shortlist of twelve - matched to the exact shift and depth-rating specification - was presented to the client. Offer letters were countersigned within two working days of the client's selection.

The outcome

All twelve positions were filled eleven working days after engagement. The shaft crew was operational before the client's contractual deadline, and no certificate deficiencies were noted at the initial safety audit. The client subsequently engaged IE Services for temp staffing cover during annual leave cycles.
